My favourite 5km training run
|Running takes a fair amount of time out of one’s life, especially training for a half marathon. I decided to share my go-to route for when I want to just run on autopilot.
I never thought I’d say it, but 5km is now a short run for me. Short run days are awesome, I tend to stick to a similar route around Craighall Park. It’s a route I enjoy, it’s got plenty of hills and is pretty scenic with a stretch along the side of Delta Park. It’s also great because I know how much time it will take, I know how to pace myself on this route and it’s a great way to track if I’m getting any better – which I am by the way.
If I have the time, or it’s a longer training day for me, then I’ll usually detour into Delta Park. Running around the inner fence of the park equates to an extra 5km. It’s a great park, lots of runners and cyclists and dog walkers around and there’s also a Parkrun organised there on a Saturday morning.
I try to mix it up a little and run the route in reverse and add in extra blocks every now and again and sometimes cross over into Parkhurst or Dunkeld just to keep myself from getting bored with it.
See you on the road!
