A passion for expensive art

I’ve never really been into art so much until I moved out of home and felt the need to fill all the empty walls. I recently moved into my new place, and the walls are about as thrilling as having a deep, meaningful conversation with a mole.

So I decided that I wouls start the hunt for stuff to hang on the walls so that I don’t feel like I’m living in a clininc and saw two of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen this weekend gone by.

These two prints (sorry not the greatest picture) are from plate etchings by young artist Lehlogonolo Mashaba, who I sadly can’t find much of a biography for. He’s made it into the ABSA l’Atelier Top 100, and the lovely lady on the phone from The Art Room in Parkhurst said that she thinks it’s his year to win.

They are just ridiculously striking and the detail in the prints is incredible. I’d love them forever if they ended up on my very empty walls.

Anyway, they’re way out of my league (unless I suddenly find a very rich benefactor), but a girl has to dream right?

You absolutely have to dream! I’m not a fan of credit but always think it’s crazy that you can get finance for a car and other depreciating assets and yet art – an infinitely better way to spend money and enrich your life (in my opinion) – always has to get relegated to the ‘one day’ list – I do exactly the same thing though. There’s also this weird guilt attached to buying something ‘just’ because its beautiful. Wishing you walls that will one day be adorned with all the art you desire, including your Lehlogonolo Mashaba prints and, a very happy day!

Hi,Thank you so much for a wonderful admiration for my work. its always humbling to receive such complements. I am recently working towards my solo exhibition at Artspace gallery (Parkwood) on 2 February 2013. I would appreciate if you can make it. I do have smaller prints that are at an affordable price incase you desire to have them in the future. I will launch my website very soon. peace
