So I’ve learnt that there are a definite few things that I can rely on in my life. I’ve lived my twenties as a (mostly) single girl, supporting myself except for the occasional help from my parents and spending time with my amazing friendship circle.
So when I suddenly discover a new love for something, or in this case rediscover, it’s always exciting. It helps me fill up my life with more passion and positive energy.
And this time, it isn’t an actual person I’ve fallen for, but rather an enormous mass of land known fondly as Mzansi, or South Africa.
Working in tourism really does have its benefits. It reminds you to constantly pay attention to what’s going on around you so that you can share it with others. We share experiences that affect us in amazing ways and travel has to be my favourite.
Enter the nine province mission that I’ve proudly started with Meg Pascoe (lover her). We’ve decided that 2012 is the year we have to visit each and every province from our beautiful country. And of course this delights me for two reasons. Firstly, we have an amazing country and it really is a privilege to have the means to travel it. Secondly, I’ve spent far too much time in Parkhurst over the past two years and although I love my suburb dearly, it really is time to see what else is beyond my 3km radius.
We haven’t got all the details figured out just yet, but luckily we have one province covered since we live in it (Gauteng obvs). We’ll be making more of an effort to find small festivals and to take mini-roadtrips over weekends to see what else is around here.
February looks good for the Clarens Beer Festival towards the end of the month. It’s only really 3 hours away and perfect for a quiet weekend. March is something a little bit more… hectic. Pascoe pants has decided that we’ll be visiting Schlaapstad. All I can say is, watch out Cape Town.
So there you have it, three months into the future and we’ve got travel plans. How awesome?
K for Kate
P.S. Popped in a video below that totally inspires me to go do some more exploring!
