Escaping in the city at Enmasse

Isn’t it just the best going to places where you feel like you’ve been let in on a secret that very few people know? While I know this isn’t true of Enmasse in Illovo, the ambience and stillness inside this little wellness palace makes it feel just like that.

P and I stopped in at Enmasse recently after a long day at work and were quite intrigued by this place. It’s tucked away in an office block on the intersection of Corlett Drive and Oxford Road. Basically, the intersection is crazy busy, there are restaurants downstairs that aren’t peaceful and lots of foot traffic passing by. Honestly though, besides the occasional car going by, I didn’t hear much of the outside commotion once we stepped inside Enmasse, it was like a little happy bubble in there.

The dark, moody decor is offset by the hints of orange dotted all over the place and the light humoured marketing and informative collateral all over the place. And, once you’re in your white ‘suit’, you start to stick out too! The waiting area is ridiculously comfy and provides an area to relax before and after your treatment and one of the biggest ranges of tea ever to land in one place is also available for tasting. I had a chocolate chai that was scrumptious, P had an organic citrus rooibos that was also delicious.

Our treatments were done in a couple’s ‘booth’, I guess you could call it, in the open plan treatment room. Booths are separated by white linen sails and the large comfy mattresses on the floors are the treatment areas. Both of our therapists used individual technique, and both of us absolutely loved the experience. It felt tailored to me, which is important I believe, and although it’s not the same as say a traditional aromatherapy massage (my go to usually), it was a blend of Thai technique and traditional therapies. It wasn’t too hectic, like a Thai massage can be, and afterwards I felt completely relaxed.

Would I go back? Definitely and I plan to as soon as my next round of travelling is over. Enmasse offers membership packages that are great if you enjoy regular massage treatments and like being consistent in where you visit too, which is definitely an option for me.

The only thing I felt a little weird about was wearing this strange white suit for my treatment. Not sure why, but it made me feel a little self-conscious, but maybe that’s just me being me.

The images in this post were supplied by Enmasse, and my visit to them was by invite, but as always, editorial control remains my own.

A self-appointed director of happiness amongst my friends and family, I spend my days writing, brainstorming online marketing ideas and figuring out which country is next on the bucket list of places to see.
