If you had told me about Kievits Kroon, The Winelands in Gauteng as they term themselves, I would’ve laughed at you. But after spending a luxe weekend here, I absolutely love the place and would highly recommend it if you need a winter weekend escape.
Highveld winters in Jozi can be so flippin’ boring, so that’s why I’ve decided to post lots of rad things to get you out of the house and every-so-slightly pampered this winter in my winter warmer alert series. This is the second instalment, and in case you missed the first, read up on the cosy Stanley Beer Yard too!
First thing’s first, there are no actual vineyards at Kievits Kroon, but if you’re looking for the products of the Cape vines there are plenty on the wine list.
Kievits Kroon Country Estate lies just outside Pretoria and it’s all sorta magical really. We drove down their long entrance drive through hoops of big overarching trees, looking through to the other side where the Manor House lies. It felt like I had been whisked right out of Gauteng and straight into Franschhoek!
What I loved about Kievits Kroon
The Manor House has a long patio out front where we sat down pretty much when we arrived and ordered wine to enjoy the sunshine while it lasted. The patio overlooks the gardens and the pool area and it honestly feels like you’re a million miles away from civilisation even though it’s only about 20 minutes outside of central Pretoria.

We were treated to a VIP suite, a cottage situated a bit further away from the Manor House that really has every amenity you could need, from an enormous lounge to the biggest spa bath I think I’ve ever had the pleasure of dunking myself in. Truthfully, the suite was much bigger than we could ever use, but at least we felt pretty swanky over the weekend.
Dining at Kievits Kroon
I don’t even feel a little bit bad that this was my favourite part of the whole Kievits Kroon experience. The food at the hotel was absolutely exceptional, from oysters at breakfast to two six-course gourmet dinners at the Granita restaurant, we ate our way through our getaway.
Granita is such a beautiful restaurant and the service is incredible attentive. The food is absolutely exquisite and served in such beautiful platings. I honestly couldn’t put up 16 different photos of food so I’ve just put this small selection so you can get an idea of how gorgeous it is. Bookings are absolutely essential, even if you’re a guest as everything is prepped for hours in advance. The menu is seasonal and uses as much local produce as possible, game meat also makes an appearance.
We enjoyed a picnic lunch on the Sunday afternoon, which is the sweetest thing! It gets set up beforehand and you can go take a seat on a blanket and order drinks. Once you’re settled, an absolutely massive basket of treats arrives for you to spend the afternoon nibbling on. There was way more food than we could ever finish, but if you wanted to just book a picnic and pop in for the afternoon, you’ll certainly be able to take the rest home for dinner!
Look at that enormous basket of food!
The breakfast buffet was another exceptional feat: anywhere that serves fresh oysters alongside salmon and champagne gets a thumbs up in my book.
The spa, oh the spa…
Kievits Kroon has a massive spa on its premises, and we spent as much time as we could using the heated indoor pool, jacuzzis and of course enjoy a treatment too. The signature Winelands Spa Experience is an extravagant massage session that works its way down your entire body over 90 minutes. I fell asleep and snored, Alessio found it a bit too funny for my liking, but it was nothing short of AMAZING!

Seriously, Kievits Kroon wasn’t on my radar at all as a winter getaway, but I would highly recommend it if you’re looking for a quick escape that is designed to relax and revive.
Thanks to Alessio, my lovely boyfriend for the pics, he’s rather talented and makes it easy to show off Kievits Kroon! You can take a look at his website here.

Our stay at Kievits Kroon was by their invitation, but as always, this opinion is my own.
