Belmond Grand Hotel Europe

Staying at Belmond Grand Hotel Europe

While travelling, I often end up exhausted purely from packing and repacking and moving everything from one hotel to the next. In Russia however, it was a real treat to spend my entire visit at just one hotel, the Belmond Grand Hotel Europe. Saint Petersburg was my base for the week I spent there, and the hotel’s location was ideal for both walking to major attractions and a short drive from anywhere I wanted to go.

This is a luxury property and is priced accordingly, but I do believe it’s worth it if you’re able to afford the stay. From check-in, the service at Belmond Grand Hotel Europe was impeccable. The Russian-English language barrier was not an issue in the hotel at all, while the facilities within the hotel were ideal for a week-long stay.

I was greeted by the most incredible fruit platter upon arrival complimented with a bottle of red wine. The room was spacious and looked out onto a grassy park and the Russian Museum. Just over the jumble of rooftops, I spotted the onion domes of the Church of our Saviour of Spilled Blood.

What’s great about this hotel is its bar and lounge area. We enjoyed drinks here each night before heading out for dinner. The hotel’s signature cocktail range is worth a look over, or just enjoy a local beer. The bar snacks included these enormous green olives that were like eating a mini apple, I wish I could’ve brought home the entire jar.

I had a chance to enjoy dinner at L’Europe, which was absolutely perfect. My favourite dish by far was the starter, Egg in egg: a truffle-flavoured scrambled egg, topped with black caviar. It’s creamy, comforting and its simplicity and complexity are mind-blowing. The restaurant also entertains with live music and if you’re lucky enough to get a booking on a Friday night, ballet dancers.
