I recently spent 72 hours in Soweto, something I’ve never done before. Even though I live just 25 minutes from Soweto, I don’t get enough chances to visit, and each time I do go, I get the chance to see some incredible things. This time however was not about the place as much as it was about the personalities…
So many times, I’ve watched videos and looked through photos of people that have taken trips and had they experience made by the local people they’ve met while travelling. I feel like I’ve had similar experiences, but have never truly connected with a destination like I’ve yearned for. This all changed for me in Soweto, where I met some of the most beautiful people and shared in their moments while exploring the township and imbibing at the Soweto Wine Festival (check more out here).
The Kofifi Movement in Soweto believe in the celebration of Vintage everything.
This sassy little madam would pose for a photo and then run over to check it on my camera!
A religious thought?
Soweto presented such personality in it’s music and food and culture, it’s no surprise that all the people I met fell into this epic scale at some point. There was so much celebration of life in the streets and at the restaurants we visited that I could hardly decide where to look on any given occassion.
Nqobile, a new friend I met at Soweto Wine Festival.
Vuyo, one third of @iseeadifferentyou, and one of the best smiles ever created.
Radio123live, possibly the best live hip hop act I’ve ever seen.
I still have so much more to write about Soweto and my incredible experience there, but these pictures can just begin to tell the story for now.
An MC at Trackside Creative, one of the awesome nightlife spots we got to party at.
Mpho, jamming it up for Urban Village at Soweto Wine Festival.
Isn’t she a cutie?
