I’m all about the new places to hang out in Jozi right now, and Ritual Cafe is definitely one of these!
This small bistro in Linden is just one of the many reasons the suburb is getting hipper by the second, and not only is it rather cool, it’s also all rather delicious. And you know I’m all about the delish-est dishes in Joburg.
The interior of Ritual Cafe.
Headed up by Chef Sean Ackermann, Ritual Cafe is small with a big heart. The menu is written out on an enormous blackboard above the tables, and the kitchen is completely open. The smells wafting around this slight-rustic-slightly-gritty joint are enough to draw you in.
Hello chef! This is Sean, propietor and chef for Ritual Cafe.
Disclaimer: I’ve been working with Ritual Cafe to get their name out there a little, which means two things: first, I’ve tasted all these dishes and can personally vouch for every single one; second, I can absolutely say you need to get down there and grab a table because it’s going to get busy very soon.
As a side note, Alessio took these images! Aren’t they great?
This salad is love on a plate – caramelised pear, blue cheese and walnuts!
The menu is a bit of an eclectic mix, which I personally love. It’s got some comfort food, some healthy bits, a little Durban spice (Sean’s from Durban), and a great seared salmon to round it off!
A contender for one of the best burgers in Jozi, as voted by me.
The aforementioned seared salmon is perfect!
Housemade fig ice-cream on a bed of basil, perfect for the not-so-sweet lovers amongst us
Delicate mussels in a curry sauce, up there with my top dishes at Ritual Cafe
Ritual Cafe is located at 32 7th Street, Linden, and is open Tuesday through Saturday for lunch and dinner. Follow Ritual Cafe on Facebook here, or call 079 573 3989 for reservations.
