Okay, so let me calm down and backtrack a second. EateryJHB is just so incredible that I still don’t believe it when I mention it to somebody and they don’t know this amazing little restaurant. I even went back and did a search on here and I cannot believe that I’ve never mentioned it! So here you go…
EateryJHB has been open for a couple of years, and I’ve been eating there for most of them. They have an exceptional seasonal menu that changes every few months, a fantastic wine selection that has some great boutique bottles on it, and they’re just wonderfully friendly to boot!
What I love about the food here is that it’s almost simple, but has these little twists you don’t expect when you bite into something. It’s gourmet fare without the fuss and the ambiance is totally relaxed. It’s only got a few tables too, so absolutely ideal for a romantic meal out!
The kitchen at EateryJHB is completely open, so you can smell everything delicious before it hits your table!
EateryJHB is off the main drag in Parkmore, which is probably why a lot of people don’t know it’s there, but it’s one of the reasons I personally love this little restaurant.
The reason why I’m finally getting around to writing about EateryJHB is because I was invited to attend their Spring menu launch a few days ago and was reminded how much I love their food! I opted for two starters rather than a starter and a main, because I wanted to order my favourite dish, the seared hanger steak with chimichurri, and the new oyster dish on the menu.
The seared hanger steak with chimichurri is delicate in flavour and completely tender
Luderitz oysters with spanspek and tarragon relish – a must try!
Not mine, but another member of our group ordered this delish oven roasted hake with cherry tomato sauce
The selection of dishes is small, just five starters, five mains and a handful of desserts, but each is made with love and care and is pretty much perfect when it arrives. I’m a creature of habit when it comes to desserts, and always order a panna cotta when it’s on the menu, which is exactly what I did at EateryJHB.
Vanilla panna cotta with scorched pineapple and toasted almond flakes
That’s a pretty fine selection…

Another oyster shot…
Fancy a meal at EateryJHB? I would recommend booking a table then (because they’re small and busy), they’re open from Monday to Saturday for lunch and dinner, check out their website here or give them a call on 011 783 1570.
My meal at EateryJHB was by their invitation, but since I spend money their all the time in any case, you can trust me on this one!
