Westcliff High Tea

“This is not your Grandmother’s High Tea”

A few months ago I stayed at the Four Seasons The Westcliff Johannesburg (still a mouthful to say!) and was blown away at how incredible the experience was. The most common question after my stay however was: “Do they still do high tea?”

Before the renovation, The Westcliff was ridiculously popular for high teas, and after the renovation, they were put on hold. But the people want what they want, and the hotel has brought back high tea just for them, and I for one, am extremely excited!

“This sumptuous treat is not your granny’s high tea,” says the hotel’s General Manager, Sebastien Carre. “It’s an unashamedly modern feast – and every bit as vibrant as the city it calls home.”

Here’s the low-down:

  • You can’t beat the view over Jozi (fact)
  • There is a choice of 14 TWG loose-leaf teas to enjoy
  • There’s a sweet option with six treats and three savoury delights
  • OR there’s a savoury option with six goodies and three sweet items

Sweet items includes macarons, baked scones and the signature Westcliff Éclair – featuring choux pastry stuffed with praliné mousseline and caramelised popcorn. While those with a preference for savoury goods can expect monarch prawns crumbed in coconut and Thai avo relish, and foie gras crème brûlée with fig compote orange zest and gingerbread soldiers.

The afternoon tea costs R395 per person and is available from Monday to Thursday at View Restaurant from 14h30 to 17h00.

If you’re more than ten guests, you will be hosted in one of the private dining rooms or at the Jacaranda Hill venue.

Make your reservation online at www.viewrestaurant.co.za or contact the catering department directly on [email protected] for special occasion group functions.

Go on, treat yourself!
