Sometime I believe my heart was actually born in Cape Town and then inserted into my Jozi-loving body. Why? Well mostly because I love wine so much. So very much, that I’ve actually had to start hiding my collection in alternative cupboards at home because I’m getting a little ashamed of its alarming size.
What this means is that any opportunity to try out new wines, be it at tasting or expos or wine pairing evenings, you can pretty much bet large sums that I’ll be there.
Stellenbosch at Summerplace is on the horizon (25 November to be exact) and these are my top reasons why you should join me there:
- Firstly, wine. Not just any wine, but the best of the best wines in each varietal, perfectly curated and lined up ready for tasting.
- Then, the wine is all paired to match a course from an award-winning (or at least award-deserving) chef from the Stellenbosch area. Think steak and red meat, but so much better.
- The entertainment is awesome too, dancing and live music and general great jol.
This year will see chefs from Delaire Graff, Terroir, Waterkloof Estate, Jordan and Overture in the mix. It’s basically a foodie heaven and a chance to taste what these chefs have been up to that we don’t otherwise get access to in Jozi!
This isn’t on OTT sit-down dinner, but rather a free-flowing affair where you get to choose your wine, or your meal, or both, and in any combination you want. There’s also a brandy lounge stacked high with sweet treats and cheeses (YES!).

And if you’re still not convinced, all of this takes places amongst rare art pieces from the Sanlam Art Collection.
Tickets cost R500 per person and include all the wine, food and entertainment on the evening that starts at 18H30. To buy your tickets, book online at www.wineroute.co.za.
