Joburg can be dull in winter right? Right! Which is why I’m bringing you my series of winter warmer alerts, of which the first Stanley Beer Yard!
This absolutely divine craft beer and gastropod is inside 44 Stanley. I visit the complex at least once a month when I pop in to get my hair sorted out, but after my recent dinner at Stanley Beer Yard, I’m trying to figure out how to have my hair done while sitting in front of their enormous fireplace!
Stanley Beer Yard isn’t exactly new, it’s been around a few years, but it’s been a summertime favourite with its outdoor area and cold craft beers on tap. Now though, it’s the first in my winter warmer alert series because it’s a fantastic dinner and drinks spot in winter.
What’s great about Stanley Beer Yard?
Other than the massive fireplace (such a goodie!), the menu is filled with simple, delicious comfort food and a great wine and beer selection. Couple that all with the big, snuggly seating options and you have an absolute winter winner in my opinion.
Alessio and I popped in for dinner recently and tried out the trinchado and the ribs. The trinchado was warm, creamy and not too spicy, while the ribs were the kind you dive right in for, regardless of how messy it’s gonna get.
We popped through on a Thursday night and were also delighted that there was a DJ present, who really livened up the atmosphere inside compared to the cold outdoors. There was plenty of retro pop going down, which totally appreciated after a heavy day of work and winter cold in my tiny home office.
The bartenders are so friendly and really helpful in suggesting what to order to drink. There’s a pretty big selection of craft beer and some excellent (and different) wines on offer at Stanley Beer Yard, and if you can, try more than one!
