High tea at the Saxon

There is absolutely nothing lovelier than spending some down time in the company of friends, family and sweet treats. Often when I feel like spoiling somebody I love, or just myself, I head in the direction of The Saxon Hotel near Sandton in Johannesburg. I’m a big fan of venturing into their Qunu restaurant for a perfect breakfast and although I haven’t tried it yet, David Higgs’ 500 restaurant has also had rave reviews from friends.

A while ago though, I was at the hotel for a meeting and was drawn to the high tea display. Available Tuesday through Saturday from 11am to 4pm, the display is maintained throughout the day for those who maybe want to treat their palates to these tiny delights.

Flowing along a central table in the common area, The Saxon’s high tea is one of the best I’ve seen in Jo’burg and has a range of both sweet and savoury treats available alongside a selection of special teas. The mini meringues were by far the best item, but that’s purely personal preference.

At R395 per person, the high tea isn’t something you can afford every day (as a normal person that is), but it’s something to look into for a special occasion or when you’re just in the mood to spoil yourself and some friends. Booking is essential, but can usually be done on the day a brief while before arriving. There is option to sit outside on the terrace or inside, both are comfy with plenty of gorgeous decor to focus on!IMG_0217
